DigitalCash (DASH) is a peer to peer cryptocurrency and a self proclaimed Decentralized Autonomous Organization founded by Evan Duffield with the initial goal of being more anonymous than bitcoin. It has a unique codebase and the platform it provides includes several technologies unique to it. The cryptocurrency itself has gone through several rebrands, initially being released as XCoin in January 2014, to later rebrand to Darkcoin within the same month. On March 2015, the name was finally settled to DASH, in short of Digital Cash. The core team for DASH was said to be comprised of 30 full time and 20 part time employees around Summer of 2017. A controversial feature in the network structure of Digital Cash is the use of "masternodes", which are powerful, dedicated servers run by parties interested in the coin and power its network infrastructure while part of the coin's rewards are reserved for them. Other unique features include DASH's "InstandSend" for instant transactions as well as a governance system that allows for voting between masternodes in regards to decisions, and a budgeting system that dedicates 10% of the block reward to funding development.
